Hanging Out in 'Frisco’

Here’s what one reviewer wrote on Yelp after visiting the original Eddie Rickenbacker’s bar and grill in San Francisco:

‘Any place that has:

• Smoking after 9pm INSIDE
  (Great for your lungs)
• Old motorcycles hanging from the ceiling
  (Great for earthquakes)
• An old, overweight diabetic who eats pie and watches taxidermy shows on television in the front bar
  (Great for your appetite)
• And funny, lively bartenders
  (Great for eye candy)

Deserves nothing less than 5 stars. I think I want to work here!’

Taking time out from a busy NADA Study Tour schedule to have a burger (HUGE) and a beer (YES, they did have Fosters) with a group of Aussie Dealers in 2011 was an unforgettable experience made more so by having lunch at Rickenbacker’s.

While Rickenbacker’s wasn’t part of the official tour and has sadly since closed down, it was an added highlight to what was to become an unforgettable NADA ‘San Fran’ experience.

Iconic as the Golden Gate Bridge, the “famous” San Francisco fog inevitably rolls in around three o’clock everyday and blankets the entire Bay Shore communities and coast, then burns back to clear skies by noon the
next day.

On Wednesday, 21 January 2015 an enthusiastic group of Australian auto dealers, partners and executives will also roll in to San Francisco to attend the 98th NADA Convention and Expo at the Moscone Centre, which is located in the urban heart of the city’s downtown district.

Leading consumer engagement companies such as Digital Air Strike and ReviewTrackers report that 70% of car shoppers say that online dealership reviews influence where they choose to buy.

Additionally, 81% of consumers who consult review sites say that they check the review scores/aggregated ratings of dealerships that appear in search results.
Google reports that 22% of internet users post a review or comment online after buying a vehicle.

So what can a Dealer do to boost their online reputation and stand out in local search?

Today's Spin

With the rise of ride sharing, subscription models, and the approach of autonomous vehicles, where does the car as we know it, fit in the world and into the future?

Andy Koblenz will present the results of research commissioned by the National Automobile Dealer Association (NADA) into the attitudes of various demographic groups towards the personal vehicle, including how they currently use the car and how they plan to in the future.

The research showed disrupters have a long way to go before replacing the traditional model of car ownership.

Koblenz will speak about disruption, sharing his belief that the traditional model of automotive dealerships has a fair way to go before being replaced.

This presentation will be held within the AADA National Dealer Convention & Expo General Session.

Andy Koblenz is NADA’s Executive Vice President of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, which represent NADA and dealer interests before US Federal Agencies, and General Counsel. His staff of attorneys specialise in Franchise and State Law, Corporate Law and Federal Regulatory Affairs.
